World Poker Tour Finals Starts Today at Foxwoods
November 7, 2007
The World Poker Tour will start filming their seventh major poker tournament at Foxwoods Resort and Casino in Connecticut today and some of the best professional players are expected to attend. The Foxwoods casino was one of the first to begin supporting the WPT and has even opened up a WPT themed poker room for their players. The room was expanded to hold 115 tables instead of 75.
The WPT started at Foxwoods in 2002 and has continued to be a success. The number of players who enter the tournament continues to rise every year. Last year’s event did take a dip in attendance but still managed to bring in a $1.7 million first place prize.
“Foxwoods Resort Casino was the very first casino to sign on to the World Poker Tour and that helped us secure the other six original charter member casinos, which in turn made the show a huge success and created the phenomenon that televised poker is today,” said Steve Lipscomb, Founder, President & CEO of WPT Enterprises. “They took a chance and since signing on in season one, Foxwoods has continually proven to be an incredible partner in business, promotion, and the all important task of creating the best possible player experience.”
Last year’s event was a tough matchup with Kathy Liebert, Mimi Tran, E.G. Harvin, Micheal Omelchuk, Mike Perry and Nenad Medic vying for the top prize. Medvic managed to come out with the victory and million dollar prize. This year’s event is sure to be exciting and nerve racking. Many players will be in attendance and this year’s event is sure to be a crowd pleaser.

With the way things ended, nickym998, who took second place, took home the most money with a total of $136,287. The Global Poker Strategic Thinking Society Formed
November 5, 2007
Charles Nesson, a professor at Harvard Law School has taken up the cause for the US government to be more flexible on poker restrictions and also lobbying for the amendment of the laws for online gambling.
Nesson has formed The Global Poker Strategic Thinking Society saying that it is a valuable teaching resource. He says, “I’d like to legitimate poker as an educational instrument. It’s a great way to learn and practice the skills of seeing what things look like from another person’s point of view.” Nesson also adds, “Obviously the distinction is that in games of chance, you’re not using your brain,” he said. “You may be entertaining yourself but you’re not really engaging in a developmental activity, whereas in games of skill you develop skill. You learn to be smart, you learn to win.”
The Global Poker Strategic Thinking Society plans on offering seminars for young people promoting the academic aspects of poker and tournaments between different schools. The Poker Players Alliance has financed some of their seminars before and Nesson hopes they continue to contribute to the cause.
Professor Nesson is best known for defending the man who leaked “The Pentagon Papers” and also for aiding families in a large court case against chemical companies, the story was told in a Hollywood movie, A Civil Action.

We will continue to provide players with the best online poker experience available as well as Bodog’s world-class customer service.”

Lee Childs Donate Executive Poker Tour Main Event Winnings to Project Lifesaver
November 1, 2007
The First ever Executive Poker Tour took place last week at the Trump Taj Mahal in Atlantic City, New Jersey. The tournament was created by Rick Rahim to bring together executives to play poker with a portion of fees going to the Project Lifesaver Foundation. The main event for the tournament was a No Limit Texas Hold’em $2,500 buy in and attracted some major professional poker players.
Lee Childs was one of the card players to try his luck and he won the main event at the Taj Mahal. He was represented in the tournament by Card Player Media. Childs recently finished in seventh place in the 2007 WSOP main event so he seems to be on a good streak of luck. “The structure of the tournament was one of the best I have ever seen. It was a really fun tournament and really catered to the players.” said Childs about the EXPT.
Childs spends a good deal of his spare time helping charities. He is involved with the American Cancer Society, The Make a Wish Foundation, and the Alzheimer’s Association. Rick Rahim the creator of the tour is also the executive director to the Project Lifesaver Foundation. The entry fees from the EXPT will go toward the foundation to raise money for the charity. The Foundation helps provide people with an electronic device that transmits a signal that will allow that person to be tracked down if they were to wander off. This type of device is good for people who are mentally impaired, senior citizens or any other impairment.
