Team PokerStars Signs Boris Becker
November 25, 2007
Team PokerStars has added another player to their long list of poker professionals. Except this time the new member is not a professional poker player. Boris Becker is the newest addition to Team PokerStars. Becker is known for being the youngest player to win the men’s singles title at Wimbledon when he was just seventeen years old and won the tournament three times. He was born in 1967 in Germany but now resides in Switzerland.
Becker plans to participate in the upcoming European Poker Tour events that PokerStars sponsors and hopes to become a world-class poker player. “When I was still playing professional tennis, I started learning to play poker casually in between games because it helped me to improve my concentration,” Becker said through PokerStars’ website. “Now, I want to develop my poker skills and challenge myself to become really competitive at the highest levels in poker.”
PokerStars will be using the European Poker Tour and the Asia Pacific Poker Tour to expand their brand by having live, large buy-in televised events. Becker is used to being in the spotlight since 1985 so he will be at ease during filming. He has full celebrity status in the European market. He will also appear in a new TV advertising campaign for PokerStars.
The German Poker Open taking place January 29th-Feburary 2nd and the EPT Grand Final in Monte Carlo on April 12th-17th will be the first events that Becker will play in as a member of Team PokerStars. There are seven more events scheduled for the European Poker Tour and Becker will be seen at many if not all of them.
“Boris Becker is a world class sportsman who became famous for his competitive spirit and aggressive, entertaining playing style, so we’re delighted that he has become an ambassador for PokerStars,” Said Tamar Yaniv, Director, EMEA Marketing from PokerStars. “Thanks to his commitment to fighting for every point on court, he perfectly embodies the competitive spirit at the heart of all good poker players. And now PokerStars is giving their players who have always dreamed of facing Boris Becker at Wimbledon the opportunity to compete with him in Dortmund.”
