November 8, 2007
Day one of the WPT World Poker Finals at Foxwoods kicked off with 237 players hoping to win the top prize. The tournament began a little after noon and took place in five 90 minutes intervals. Each player started the day with 30,000 chips. Out of all the tables two were the most exciting. The players on the two interesting tables were Allen Kessler, Bradley Berman, Eric Froehlich, Vanessa Rousso, and Tom Schneider on Table 15 and Alex Bolotin, Lee Markholt, JC Tran, Steve Zolotow, Chau Giang and Matt Giannetti on table 39.
On table 15 Rousso was gaining a lot of chips while being very aggressive. She had a gain of 70,000 during play but ended the day with a little over 50,000. Kessler’s chip stack was lowered early in play when he had pocket aces but he lost the hand and he had only 5,500 chips left. Then he went all in with pocket aces again against Rousso’s pocket kings. He managed to win that hand and gained 6,500 chips.
Then action at table 39 started to heat up. It was Giannetti who took an early lead when his chip stack grew to 70,000 when he beat Tran with trip 8s. Then Giannetti went up against Tran and Markholt with A-8 and won the pot again bringing his chip stack up to 89,000.
